In fall of 2019, I choreographed Pirates of Penzance at the University of Michigan. I was slated to direct and choreograph Pirates of Penzance at the Utah Shakespeare Festival in summer of 2020 but the production was delayed due to the pandemic.
2020 has been a challenging year for everyone, especially in the performing arts industry. I stand behind and acknowledge the courage of everyone who has shared their stories and helped bring to light the inequities and disparities deeply rooted in our industry. I have been grateful for some time to learn, reflect, listen, and examine my own practices as well as the role I can play in making the industry a safe, supportive and inclusive space. In summer of 2021 I was able to return to live theatre by directing and choreographing Pirates of Penzance at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. USF created an amazing experience prioritizing the work as well as everyone's safety. Every single person involved with the production was incredible and the space was filled every day with gratitude and collaboration. I look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and work to create the world and the industry we want to live in.
